In 2008 Southbay were awarded a 2 year maintenance framework agreement by Sunderland City Council for all of their coastal maintenance. The works ranged from minor sea wall and groyne repairs to new beach access ramps. During the 2 years Southbay carried out various works, many of them working against the tide in harsh conditions. On completion of the framework agreement the council extended the contract by 1 year till the end of 2010.
