This was Southbay Civils main contract for the year 2002
- 2003.
Construction of a variety of flood defences to Maryport.
Involving a mixture of repairs to existing structures and
construction of new structures.
Works were undertaken in harsh tidal conditions on the north
and south piers of Maryport Harbour, Cumbria.
1. Dismantling and reconstruction of a tidal timber trestle
structure. (pictured)
2. Repair and renew concrete foundations to existing piers.
3. Construction of reinforced concrete retaining walls.
4. Concrete protective “toe” to existing piers.

5. Concrete paving.
6. Reinforced concrete flood walls.
7. Reconstruction of a timber groyne structure.
Total volume of concrete placed by Southbay Civils was 4,150
cubic metres.
Contract completed on schedule, within budget, no accidents
or incidents.
